Daily Responsibilities
- Making sure that the companies’ IT infrastructure and associated systems run smoothly, perform within agreed targets, and provide a secure platform for the company’s business operations.
- The Manager can also act as IT specialists when the company needs to find solutions to complex technical issues.
- The Manager will also be responsible for managing the IT infrastructure budget.
- IT managers must have strong leadership skills as their work entails managing technical staff, assigning and organizing tasks, overseeing the implementation of upgrades, recruiting new staff, and outlining budgets.
- The Manager must be able to create an efficient work environment, one conducive to teamwork and collaboration, and encourage good communication between employees and management. Creative skills are a very strong asset in this profession, as IT Managers often must come up with new IT solutions to address any problems that arise, or to improve the efficiency of an organization’s IT infrastructure.
- Initiate and implement improvements in all areas of IT responsibility.
- Serves as main point of contact on all IT-related matters for the office assigned.
- Advising senior Management on the IT needs.
Job Scope - Lead assessment of IT infrastructure in form of future architectures, designs, and recommendations regarding data centre, computers, storage, data and network services
- Perform health check and risk analyses of IT infrastructure domains to identify points of vulnerability, recommend risk reduction strategies and solutions including cloud options.
- Lead design of IT Service Management processes based on ITIL and other industry leading frameworks.
- Lead and manage the internal Help Desk
o Oversees all help desk activities
o Responds to escalated help desk issues.
o Interacts with internal clients on all levels to help resolve IT-related issues and provides answers in a timely manner.
o Overseeing the proper storage of all company data and archiving of records and back ups
o Provides expert technical support to employees in the organization
o Ensuring smooth and efficient running of all IT systems in the organization - Assist with IT Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning including requirements, reference architecture, governance programs, and strategies
- Oversee and facilitate the research, evaluation and selection of Infrastructure hardware and software technology and product standards, as well as the design of standard configurations
- Provide leadership, user support and be an advocate for IT Operations across the company
- Leading and mentoring novice to senior level support personnel
- Lead projects and initiatives that will pull in IT support teams, Engineering IT, Corporate IT, and other stakeholders to understand requirements, identify needs, evaluate the environment capabilities against requirements, assess risks, convey architecture recommendations and drive resolution of issues.
- Participate in administrative tasks such as budgeting, purchasing, and employee management
- Ensures that company assets are maintained responsibly.
- Preserves assets by implementing disaster recovery and back-up procedures and information security and control structures.
- Identifies and provides standards for gathering information for use in trend analysis and reports information to company management.
- Assists in the planning and implementation of additions, deletions and major modifications to the supporting regional infrastructure.
- Assess infrastructure on a regular basis to ensure that it meet the necessary demands
- Protect customer data from outside infiltration through encryption, secure data storage and other necessary means
- Implementing IT system security in the organization to ensure safety of data and IT systems.
- Evaluates system potential by testing compatibility of new programs with existing programs.
- Evaluates expansions or enhancements by studying work load and capacity of computer system.
- Achieves computer system objectives by gathering pertinent data; identifying and evaluating options; recommending a course of action.
- Confirms program objectives and specifications by testing new programs; comparing programs with established standards; making modifications.
- Improves existing programs by reviewing objectives and specifications; evaluating proposed changes; recommending changes; making modifications.
- Places software into production by loading software into computer; entering necessary commands.
- Maximizes use of hardware and software by training users; interpreting instructions; answering questions.
- Maintains system capability by testing computer components.
- Prepares reference for users by writing operating instructions.
- Maintains client confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
- Manages day-to-day internal client interaction.
- Sets and manages internal client expectations.
- Communicates effectively with internal clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions
People - Incumbent to motivate the team in the IT Department to work and produce results as desired by the management
- Delegate work effectively to the team in the IT division.
- Assign tasks to staff according to their skills and ability, that must be SMART ( Specific, Measurable, Achievable realistic and Time bound )
- Training and Development
Personal - Engage in activities which contribute to personal CPD (Continuous Professional Development) and maintain professional accreditation.
- Responsible for on-going informal and formal development to stay abreast of innovations in the industry.
Team - Identify suitable training programs (internal and external) that can fill learning gaps.
- Identify training and skills gaps in the department
- Identify and facilitate activities which contribute to development of team members.
- Implement and oversee mentoring and informal training/partnering within department.
- Provide guidance and training in design skills and such other as necessary to Technicians under the incumbent for Continuous Professional
Company - Liaise with HR to facilitate training for department
- Liaise with other project managers to identify learnership and bursary opportunities that will benefit the company.
Administration - Ensure filing systems are maintained and up to date
- Ensure that employees operate within ISO standards
- Ensure correct filing and signing of documents as well as necessary approvals are obtained from clients and service providers
- To be aware of the chain of custody of documents/drawings
Financial - Is able to draw up a departmental budget
- Is able to ensure project budgets are adhered to
- To operate efficiently and make economically sound decisions on all projects
- Ensure fairness and procedure in procurement of goods and services.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, or related field from an accredited college/university.
- 3+ years of relevant management experience and 5-10 years of technical experience in the IT field..
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) at a proficient level and data entry experience
- Microsoft Active Directory and Exchange; Microsoft, Apple and Linux operating systems Construction Software ERP Systems
- Engineering design software
- WAN/LAN Architectures, Switching, VPN, and Firewall.
- ISO compliance
- Regular inter-provincial site visits
- Self-motivated, proactive, detail oriented and a team player
- Confidentiality and discretion in the performance of all duties and responsibilities
- Knowledge of Safety requirements and health systems.
- Knowledge Construction regulation and Legal liability.
- Registration with a recognised professional body will be an advantage.
- A valid Driver’s licence.
- Can take decisions and demonstrate accountability and integrity.
- Can lead and supervise a team to achieve business objectives in all circumstances
- Can negotiate, influence, and persuade stakeholders in projects to achieve positive solutions to any challenges which may arise
- Can troubleshoot and strategize to meet the long-term vision of the company.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines
